The Big Picture
An estimated 50,000 Americans with Autism will turn 18 each year as part of a surge of children diagnosed in the 1990’s. Of these, a significant number have graduated from high school with average to above average GPA’s and have a desire to get a job, attend college and anticipate a future the same as their peers. Due to some subtle deficits that often go unnoticed, their opportunities for success are often limited, and the path to adulthood can be riddled with difficulties and disappointment.
The Greater Goal
As part of the Independent Living Resource Center, Greater Expectations mission is to become a catalyst for growth and opportunities for individuals ages 18-35 with high functioning Autism. Using evidenced based interventions and strategies, or goal is to understand how Autism impacts each individual and to develop personalized “visions” and “goals” which target key areas of deficit.
